Bridge History
|
The first recorded Bridge event at the Club was a Charitable Tournament held in 1958. The following year seasonal games were initiated. Previously, throughout the 1950's lady members hosted Bridge in their homes and at one time used the Fudger House, in the heart of Toronto.
In the early days, without designated Bridge space at the Club, the ladies used either the Billiard Room or the Ladies' Locker Room, which was not on par with golfers who shared the same elbow room.
In the 1970's Bess Burns shared her enthusiasm and knowledge by agreeing to direct and encourage Bridge fledglings. Under her guidance Duplicate Bridge finally became part of the Ladies' Central Executive with a full committee appointed to head the new event.
Trophies were established in 1979.
